Pangea Cares Announces Its Sponsorship of the Annual Mother’s Day Makeover at Swissotel Chicago on May 6

2021-08-31T18:51:31-05:00May 1st, 2019|

Pangea Cares is proud to announce its sponsorship of the 3rd Annual Mother’s Day Makeover hosted by Julie Hightower of a Better Day with Julie and The Daisie Foundation on May 6, 2019 at the Swissotel Chicago from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

On Monday, May 6, 400 deserving moms across the Chicagoland area will participate in a day dedicated to pampering them. Military wives & veterans, cancer survivors, working moms, and single parents will receive makeovers that include full makeup, hair styling, and a new Summer wardrobe. Sonya Martin Photography will also be in attendance to take professional headshots for future use by the attendees.

As part of the Mother’s Day Makeover, Pangea Cares will be sponsoring the flower bouquets and individual stems that will be given to each mom in attendance. In addition, Pangea Cares has invited 50 Pangea Real Estate residents and members of the council for Vernon Park Gardens to be a part of the Mother’s Day Makeover. Vernon Park Gardens is located in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Chicago and made possible with the help of Chicago Eco House, a non-profit that works to restore the inner city through sustainability and green energy. Chicago Eco House has also partnered with Pangea Cares to help provide flowers for the event.

This event will help celebrate moms who have balanced motherhood, life, work, and the various challenges that come up along the way. There will be women featured to share their personal stories of struggle and empowerment to encourage all those in attendance.

In advance of this event, the Daisie Foundation hosted the Leading Ladies Luncheon on April 28, in which Pangea Cares helped provide a wonderful floral backdrop. All proceeds from the luncheon benefited the upcoming Mother’s Day Makeover event.

Pangea Cares to Distribute Turkey Baskets to 125 Families in Chicago and Indianapolis for Thanksgiving

2021-08-31T19:13:36-05:00November 9th, 2018|

Pangea Cares, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that serves underrepresented communities in Chicago, Indianapolis and Baltimore, will prepare and distribute 125 Thanksgiving turkey baskets to residents of Pangea Properties, a private Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), on Saturday, November 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In time for Thanksgiving, Pangea Cares will be making the holiday special for families in need living in Chicago and Indianapolis. The Turkey Giveaway initiative is a part of Pangea Cares’ mission to improve the communities that Pangea Properties owns and operates.

“This initiative is one way for us to give back to our communities, specifically our residents in need. We chose residents who we know are hard workers and are deserving of little help this holiday season. We wanted to ensure that families have a good feast on Thanksgiving because everyone deserves to have a fulfilling holiday. I’m glad that we are able to make a difference,” said Chanelle Cromwell, Programs Director for Pangea Cares.

Prior to the event, employees will prepare and assemble baskets to be delivered on Nov 17. Each basket will include a variety of traditional Thanksgiving items such as a turkey, green beans, stuffing, cornbread, corn, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, carrots, cranberry sauce, and more. In addition, the baskets will also include a personalized guide that contains recipes and cooking tips to prepare the perfect Thanksgiving dinner.

Volunteers of the organization will personally deliver turkey baskets to the homes of 125 Pangea residents.

Kelsey Lake, Operations Associate at Pangea, is looking forward to seeing the faces of Pangea residents brighten as they receive the baskets. “The turkey giveaway allows those of us in non-resident facing roles to have the opportunity to interact face-to-face with residents. This is such a great way to give back and connect with those in our neighborhoods,” she added.

Last year, Pangea Cares participated in the Chicago Basket Brigade and delivered 30 baskets to Pangea Properties residents. The organization plans to more than double its distribution this year and continue efforts in years to come.

Chicago Eco House to Have Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Chicago’s South Side on September 8 at 3 p.m.

2020-04-16T21:53:36-05:00August 30th, 2018|

Chicago Eco House, a non-profit that works to restore the inner city through sustainability and green energy, announces its official grand opening and ribbon cutting of Vernon Park Gardens located in the Woodlawn neighborhood. The ceremony will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 3 p.m. at 6025 S. Vernon Ave.

Neighbors and friends will gather to celebrate the grand opening of Vernon Park Gardens located in the lot next to 6033 S. Vernon, which is owned by Pangea Properties, a private Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). The vacated land was donated to Chicago Eco House and converted to a flower farm and park for the community. The space is managed by a council of neighbors who all live within one block of the garden.

“This garden is much like our community: growing, glowing, resourceful, and resilient. One will complement the other, giving us reason to be proud of the place we’ve chosen to call home,” said Jean Clark, President of the West Woodlawn Coalition.

The Eco House flower farm is unique because it is the only commercial scale off grid system in Chicago. A rainwater catchment system is used to irrigate flowers with solar panels powering the pump. With the help of Pangea, Eco House is able to collect the water off of the rooftop at 6033 S. Vernon. This makes the Eco House farm environmentally sustainable. In addition, the garden provides neighbors the opportunity to receive a dividend share out of the net profits from any sales from the flower farm. The downspout system will help save thousands of gallons of water and will be used in an innovative solar powered irrigation system.

“We are excited to have partnered with local residents, Pangea Properties, University of Chicago, Engineers Without Borders, and the SECC to make this project a reality,” said Quilen Blackwell, President and Founder of Chicago Eco House. “We believe that Vernon Park Gardens will help create economic opportunities for youth in West Woodlawn as well as a safe community space for people to garden and hold community events.”

In preparation of the grand opening, neighbors and volunteers have dedicated time to beautifying the garden. Last month, volunteers from Pangea helped with minor construction of a community stage, gardening and landscaping. Pangea will also be sponsoring the Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.

“We really support what Chicago Eco House is doing for the community and it was an honor to assist with the beautification of Vernon Park Gardens,” said Chanelle Cromwell, Programs Director for Pangea Cares, a 501c3 nonprofit organization within Pangea Properties. “Our rain water contribution will be vital to maintaining the garden and we look forward to seeing it blossom for years to come.”
